Mary J. Blige has a Burger King ad that’s a part of the same campaign as David Beckham‘s recent smoothie ad, but her commercial was pulled almost immediately after its debut.
The ad showed Blige singing the praises — literally — of Burger King chicken sandwiches, sparking an outcry from critics who felt the casting of a black celebrity for a fried chicken ad was inappropriate and insulting.
The subject matter isn’t why the Mary J. Blige Burger King ad was pulled, though; instead, the fast food chain blames music licensing concerns. A company spokesperson told
“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest recently announced that next week’s episode, the 400th of the series, will pay tribute to Whitney Houston.
“We are trying to figure out how we can go in and obviously pay tribute [to Houston] in some way and acknowledge the impact that she had on popular singers, popular music and young singers that are trying to make it,” he said.
Mary J. Blige will be the celebrity mentor for the Whitney Houston tribute episode, and Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina will return to the “Idol” set to perform live.
