The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation will honor Chaz Bono with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at its April 21 ceremony. Bono will be the first transgender person to be given the equality award, and GLAAD acting president Mike Thompson acknowledged Bono’s vanguard role in the organization’s official statement.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff are the winners of “Dancing With the Stars” Season 13. The motivational speaker and Army veteran was a constant fan favorite, and fought an ankle injury during the last few episodes to beat out fellow finalists Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake.
“You are amazing,” said Martinez to his partner Smirnoff. “I’m so grateful that I was able to be a part of your first mirror ball trophy.” The two performed a jive and a samba for their final dances.

The LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s Anniversary Gala celebrated ’40 Years of Family’ last night by honoring the very busy Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka with the Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award, and bestowing Chaz Bono with the Board of Director’s Award from fellow star/dancer David Arquette.
Also in attendance at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown LA were Dita Von Teese and Karina Smirnoff, as well as Glee actress Jane Lynch, “Family Ties’” Meredith Baxter, “Queer as Folk’s” Peter Paige and “Roseanne’s” Sara Gilbert.
