While the previous trailer was really only a teaser, The Weinstein Company has now released the 2nd trailer for “The Iron Lady” (see below) in which Meryl Streep portrays Great Britain’s fearless prime minister, Margaret Thatcher.

That Thatcher fully occupies this role is, as usual, an understatement, much like Helen Mirren‘s incarnation of Queen Elizabeth II in “Queen,” for which Mirren won her Oscar. …Read More

Celebs.com Sound Off: Amy Winehouse, Trent Reznor & Karen O, Foster the People

8, 2011 11:00am

Although the days are certifiably shorter, they seem much, much longer and the silver lining to that is having more time to listen to new music.

This weeks biggest releases include Amy Winehouse‘s posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures,  Trent Reznor & Karen O’s cover of “Immigrant Song” for David Fincher‘s new film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the music video for Foster The People’s “Call It What You Want.

The Week’s Best Album: Amy Winehouse – “Our Day Will Come”

Ever since the untimely death of Amy Winehouse this past July, there’s been a lot of buzz around the album she was working on.

That album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures was released this week to both critical and commercial success. The album is projected to top the charts upon it’s release.

Winehouse, a notoriously tortured soul, seemingly poured everything she had left into this album. Eerily, it’s as if she knew her time was fleeting.

The Week’s Best Single: Karen O with Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross

In the way that Amy took the sounds from a different time and updated them, Trent Reznor and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs took a song from a different time, Led Zepplin’s “Immigrant Song” and updated it for David Fincher’s up and coming film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The song is a much harder, electronic look at one of the most notable rocks songs ever recorded. Only the Nine Inch Nails’ Reznor (who won an Oscar for his work on Fincher’s The Social Network) could have executed the task with this much respect, his work giving the track a smashing individuality.  Tahe integrity of the song is preserved but the places to which Reznor takes his version are sexy and industrial, readying us for the pace, tempo and feel of the movie.

This little taste leaves me desperate and excited to hear what Reznor has in store for the entire soundtrack.

The Week’s Best Music Video: Foster The People – “Call It What You Want”

Call It What You Want” solidifies Foster The People‘s claim on the kingdom of catchy hooks. But it’s their precocious music videos that make them stand out as artists.  “Call It What You Want” was directed by Ace Norton but the surreal adventure could have easily come from the mind of famed music video director Michel Gondry.

The whole video is abstract and absurd, and there are some visually stunning scenes that make you have to go back for a re-watch. Could anyone ever  tire of a group of gorgeous girls in white t-shirts (that spell out Foster) whose shootings splatter blue blood?

This isn’t the band’s first time working with Norton, he was also behind the camera for their “Helena Beats” music video which is equally awesome and trippy.
