Carey Mulligan bares some skin on the cover of the W magazine January 2012 issue for photographer Michael Thompson. In a recent interview with MakingOf.com, the “Shame” actress discussed her nude scenes, saying that stripping down was “absolutely right.”
“I’ve been topless once or twice [in a film], but always in sort of very innocent ways,” she explained. “And I’ve always been sort of staunchly feminist about it, I’ve never relished the idea of doing it, and never if it was inappropriate or gratuitous in any way. But I just felt it was absolutely right; that’s exactly who she was. She wanted to be seen, she’s an exhibitionist and she’s provocative.”
In “Shame,” Mulligan’s character plays a sex addict’s younger sister. The film opened Dec. 7. Check out more images from her W magazine January 2012 photo shoot below.

Kate Beckinsale is the cover model of the Redbook January 2012 issue, and in the accompanying interview, the “Underworld: Awakening” actress discussed Comic-Con, YouTube and parenting.
Beckinsale says that the YouTube effect has changed her willingness to do nude scenes in movies. “I think it’s worse nowadays, because you do something like that and somebody immediately makes a five-times-as-long feature on YouTube to rock music, and they play it over and over again,” she said. “I’m not averse to doing a nude scene, but it would have to be something I felt I could really argue for in front of my daughter, and so far that hasn’t happened.”
Speaking of her daughter, Kate Beckinsale also noted how essential it was for her to be an active parent: “If anything ripples the water, then it’s important to be home. My daughter is about to be 13, and I realize how fleeting time is. I was happy to be around Lily to talk about her day when she got home.”
Beckinsale also sat for a photo shoot with Gilles Bensimon for the Redbook January 2012 issue; see those images below.
