Zooey Deschanel is getting more involved behind the camera by launching her own production company. Along with her Hello Giggles partner Sophia Rossi, the pair have already inked their first deal — a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox Television, the same studio that houses “New Girl.”
The two-year deal with Fox will have Deschanel and Rossi focused on developing new comedies and dramas for television.
“We’ve known Zooey as an actress through ‘New Girl,’ and as we got to know her as a producer through the script she developed, we quickly realized that there is so much more to her,” 20th TV chairman Gary Newman said, referring to Deschanel’s previous pilot “Must Be nice.” ”Zooey and Sophia have their finger on the pulse of young people and particularly young women, and we really responded to that.”
Since Hello Giggles is an online community that is all about empowering women, Deschanel and Rossi are likely to develop shows with a similar mission.
