Wentworth Miller has come out as gay, after declining to make an appearance in Russia. The country recently implemented a law prohibiting any public discussion of gay rights around children.
The former “Prison Break” star was invited to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, but declined by writing a letter to the festival’s director, Maria Averbakh.
“The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly,” he wrote.
Since then, Miller has received praise and support from various celebrities.
