Tom Hanks is already entering the Oscar race with his upcoming movie, “Captain Phillips.” Hanks plays the lead character of Captain Richard Phillips, whose real-life story is expected to impress on the big screen.
Phillips was the captain of a container ship, Maersk Alabama, which was attacked by Somali pirates in 2009. This was the first pirate attack of an American cargo ship in 200 years.
The film is based on Phillips memoir, “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at sea.” In the first trailer for “Captain Phillips,” Hanks is seen looking out into the horizon with his binoculars. It isn’t long before he realizes he’s under attack and springs into action. Ultimately, the ship is taken over by the pirates who let Phillips know that he is no longer the captain.
“Captain Phillips” will hit theaters on October 11. Check out the film’s first trailer below.
