Back in 2009, late singer Amy Winehouse spent the greater part of the year on vacation during an extended stay on the island of St. Lucia, where she enjoyed some time away from her hectic lifestyle filled with paparazzi and substance abuse.
During her time on the island, the singer grew close to a young girl named Dannika Augustine, and now it’s being widely reported that Winehouse was in the process of adopting the child when she died.
“Amy was already my mother. I would call her Mum and she would call me her daughter,” Dannika, now 10 years old, told Britain’s Daily Mirror. “She took care of me, and we had fun together. I loved her, and she loved me.”
However, today Amy’s rep soundly denies the reports, and tells TMZ: “It’s not true… I think [Amy] might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her.”
