Comic-Con in San Diego continues to break news regarding various film franchises, the most recent being the announcement by “The Amazing Spider-Man” team of Marc Webb (director), Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spiderman) and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) of the film’s villain.
The new nemesis will be… Doctor Curt Connors, aka The Lizard, who will be portrayed by Rhys Ifans (“Notting Hill,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt1″). Ifans’ appearance as The Lizard should supplant the image people have of him as “that guy who was with Sienna Miller.”
Here’s the official announcement:
UPDATE FROM COMIC-CON: a security guard conducted a citizen’s arrest of Rhys Ifans at the convention in San Diego. According to Reuters report in italics below, the actor was cited for battery and the San Diego courts will have to decide whether they’ll pursue the matter any further.
“He was abusive, belligerent and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard,” San Diego police spokeswoman Lt. Andra Brown said in a statement on Saturday.
Brown told Reuters a member of Ifans’ “entourage” did not have proper identification to enter Comic-Con, a gathering of science-fiction fans and comic book lovers. for a promotional event to tout the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie.
Ifans used his hand to push his way past security, Brown said. He cursed the staff, hurled insults at the United States and loudly complained: “I don’t live here,” she said.
The police spokeswoman added that Ifans’ breath “smelled like alcohol” but he was not cited for public drunkenness.
