A musical based on the music of late rapper Tupac Shakur is headed to Broadway. “Holler If Ya Hear Me” is planning a premiere during the 2013-14 season.
The musical centers around two childhood friends who live in an inner-city in the midwest, set in the present day. The story follows them as they grow up and the many challenges they face along the way. The story will be told to Tupac’s iconic music, which sold more than 75 million albums around the world.
The production will be directed by Kenny Leon, who is known for his work in “A Raisin in the Sun” and “The Mountaintop.” The late rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, will serve as a lead producer.
