The band announced yesterday that Sykes would be undergoing surgery to address some vocal issues today, which also happens to be the singer’s 20th birthday. The band has not confirmed what Sykes’ exact condition is, but some reports say he suffers from a vocal cord hemorrhage, the same condition that forced Adele to have vocal surgery. The procedure would mean Sykes will be unable to speak for a month.
“We can confirm that The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus from The Wanted,” a rep for the band said in a statement. “The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible. The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”
Fans are likely to see Sykes’ recovery process in the band’s upcoming reality show for E!, “The Wanted Life.” The show is currently filming and is scheduled to premiere in June.
