Another day, another announcement for a music competition series: The CW has revealed its lineup of mentors for “The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep,” and they include Joe Jonas, Nelly, Gloria Estefan and John Rich.
“The Next” hopes to differentiate itself from shows like “American Idol,” “The X Factor,” “The Winner Is,” “The Voice” and “Duets” by having the celebrity judges actually live with contestants for three days. As Jonas explained to Ryan Seacrest, “I’m going to be living with them for 72 hours, I’m going to be spending time with their families, learning about them.”
Another distinction is that “The Next” isn’t necessarily just looking for undiscovered talent. “These artists are going to be either people that had a chance in the past, maybe they possibly got dropped from a record label,” Jonas added. “Also there will be people that are local stars or local celebrities.”
