We won’t get to see “The Avengers” stateside until May 4, but as international box office figures start to float in, it’s clear the film will be a blockbuster.
In Australia, “The Avengers” grossed $6 million, making it the second-biggest opening there of all time. (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″ is No. 1 with a $7 million opening.) In New Zealand, it took in $800,000 — no movie has ever opened higher there.
“The Avengers” also scored in Europe and Asia, earning $2.9 million and $3.7 million in France and Italy, respectively. Taiwan and the Philippines reported opening-day sales of $1.2 million and $1.3 million, respectively.
Industry experts predict that the opening weekend for “The Avengers” in North America could bring in more than $150 million. Do you plan to see the Marvel action flick?
