In Taylor Swift‘s new single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” the singer/songwriter once again puts all of her cards on the table without revealing exactly who it is she’s laying her cards down for.
“For the last two years, I’ve been working on an album called ‘Red,’” she explained. “I called it ‘Red’ because of the tumultuous, crazy adventures in love and loss that it chronicles. In my mind, when you experience love that’s fast-paced and out of control and mixes infatuation, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, and all of those lovely emotions… in retrospect, it all looks red.”
Swift has never shied away from calling out her exes in her lyrics. Just ask the alleged star of “Dear John,” John Mayer, what it’s like to be skewered by Swift’s pen and he’ll tell you, “It made me feel terrible.” When someone of Mayer’s TMI, botched-interview background can feel the wrath of a seemingly simple country ballad, you know you’ve met your match.
