Taylor Swift CoverGirl Ad Pulled for Excessive Enhancements

Taylor Swift‘s CoverGirl ad has been pulled from circulation after the Council of Better Business Bureaus’ National Advertising Division ruled it misleading. Although fine print indicates that Swift’s eyelashes were “enhanced in post production” for the CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara ad, larger text in the ad claimed that eyelashes would have “2x more volume.”

“This isn’t a question of airbrushing,” said lawyer Andrea C. Levine of the National Advertising Division to the New York Times. “It’s a question of actually demonstrating what your lashes will look like when you use this product. The rule is that an advertising has to be truthful, accurate and not misleading. What the picture says, the small type can’t take it away.”

Swift’s CoverGirl ad isn’t the first celebrity campaign to be axed after a series of complaints. Dakota Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld have also had fashion and beauty ads pulled this year.
