The 2012 version of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival has announced its opening night film. “Looper,” directed by Rian Johnson (with whom we talked about “Brothers Bloom” at TIFF just a few years back) will take the top spot, kicking off the festival on September 6, 2012.
A couple of months ago, we announced the Pear Jam Twenty Project then on the cards for the end of September along with a cool trailer and a minimalistic poster.
Shown for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, Pear Jam Twenty is opening this weekend.
The film is rock journalist and filmmaker Cameron Crowe’s tribute to twenty years of Pearl Jam, culled from 1200 hours of footage. Here’s a couple of very cool clips of Eddie Vedder stage-diving like a crazy person, and some of the footage of how Vedder came to be Pearl Jam’s front man. …Read More
The Toronto International Film Festival has continued to assert its ranking as the top film festival in North America this week with screenings of the most buzzed-about films on the circuit, and premieres of films likely to be contenders come Oscar time.
While Brad Pitt’s “Moneyball” seems to be a winner with fans, and George Clooney’s “The Descendants” looks likely to have the debonair actor back in the nomination lists, there is no shortage of big name talent traversing Toronto’s downtown hub. With thanks to Henry Eshelman and team, here are some great shots of Clive Owen (“Children of Men”), Jason Statham (“Transporter”) and “Chuck’s” Yvonne Strahovski at TIFF with “Killer Elite” (which also stars Robert DeNiro); Ethan Hawke (“Before Sunrise,” “Gattaca”), Dave Matthews and Meg Tilly (“The Big Chill”) at TIFF for “The Woman in the Fifth;” and Selma Blair (“Hellboy”) and Scarlett Johannson’s rumored love interest Justin Bartha (“The Hangover”) promoting Todd Solondz’s “Dark Horse.”

Pearl Jam will premiere a film portrait of the band (by “Almost Famous” director, and former “Rolling Stone” journalist Cameron Crowe) at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2011, followed by a theatrical release on and from September 20. Vedder has a history with Canada’s famous film festival, having performed the tracks he wrote for “Into the Wild” at the festival a couple of years ago.
Curating the film from 1200 hours of footage, 24 hours of interviews and concert footage, Pearl Jam are celebrating their 20th anniversary with the release of the film, as well as a “Pearl Jam Twenty” book (with interviews of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Neil Young) and a soundtrack (of course).
Check out the trailer for the film below, and a sneak peek gallery of images from Cameron Crowe’s journey. To keep up with news of screenings, and to pre-order copies of anything, go to PJ20.com
