Taylor Swift in Vogue

Country crooner Taylor Swift has landed the cover of the February 2012 issue of Vogue. It’s Swift’s first cover for the venerated fashion mag, and she posed for legendary photographer Mario Testino in wild patterns and prints from Rodarte.

Swift’s editorial is called “The Single Life,” so it’s no surprise that she dishes on her love life. “I got nothing going on,” she confessed. “I just don’t really feel like dating. I really have this great life right now, and I’m not sad and I’m not crying this Christmas, so I am really stoked about that.”

Taylor Swift also talks about what freaks her out: “When is the other shoe going to drop? I am so happy right now. So I am always living in fear. This can’t be real, right? This can’t really be my life.”

Nicki Minaj

The Recording Academy has announced some of the entertainers who will perform at the 54th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12. Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and the Foo Fighters will all hit the Staples Center stage.

Artists who are up for awards include Adele and Kanye West, who have six and seven nominations, respectively. Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and Rihanna are also nominated.

Speaking of Brown, he’s set to attend the Grammys for the first time since he and Rihanna’s infamous 2009, uh, encounter. Accordingly, the celebrity rumor mill is already hinting at a reconciliation between the star-crossed lovers. Do you think it’ll happen?

Taylor Swift’s New Year’s Resolution: Be Unexpected

29, 2011 10:00am

Taylor Swift recently shared her New Year’s resolution with the AP: Mix things up a bit!

“I think my goal for the next couple of years would be to make departures in little ways and do things a little differently,” she said, “and try to maintain a balance between always providing your fans with what they’ve always liked from you and continuing to write all my own songs, but I’d love to make collaborations in different directions that aren’t exactly expected.”

That might mean delving deeper into tough topics like heartbreak in her next album, which is slated for a 2012 release. Taste of Country noted that “Safe and Sound,” a song Swift recorded with the Civil Wars for the “Hunger Games” soundtrack is “a bit of a departure from typical Swift songs” that contains “a dark element showing how she has grown as a songwriter and as an artist.”

In an earlier interview with the New Yorker, Swift indicated that many of the songs she’d already written for the album are sad. Are you ready to see Taylor Swift grow in 2012, or do you think she should stick to saccharine love songs?

Taylor Swift CoverGirl Ad Pulled for Excessive Enhancements

22, 2011 6:00am

taylor swift banned covergirl ad

Taylor Swift‘s CoverGirl ad has been pulled from circulation after the Council of Better Business Bureaus’ National Advertising Division ruled it misleading. Although fine print indicates that Swift’s eyelashes were “enhanced in post production” for the CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara ad, larger text in the ad claimed that eyelashes would have “2x more volume.”

“This isn’t a question of airbrushing,” said lawyer Andrea C. Levine of the National Advertising Division to the New York Times. “It’s a question of actually demonstrating what your lashes will look like when you use this product. The rule is that an advertising has to be truthful, accurate and not misleading. What the picture says, the small type can’t take it away.”

Swift’s CoverGirl ad isn’t the first celebrity campaign to be axed after a series of complaints. Dakota Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld have also had fashion and beauty ads pulled this year.

Celebs.com Weekly Fashion Trend Report: Luck be a Lady Tonight – Ladylike Dresses Make a Statement!

20, 2011 11:00am

By Allison Daniels

No matter the decade, the trend climate, or the actual climate, ladylike dresses are always in style. Sometimes they appear as a reaction to body-con overload; sometimes the public’s infatuation with a new public figure (pun intended – we’re looking at you, Kate Middleton) results in a revival of demure dressing sensibilities, and sometimes television shows (e.g. “Mad Men”) deliver the desire. No matter the impetus for its renaissance, this is one of the few trends that works for everybody (and every body).

With hallmarks including A-line skirts, waist-defining silhouettes, and modest hemlines, the ladylike trend is flattering to any figure, and so classic that it deserves your investment.

The looks I’m going to show you today are equally timeless and au courante.

Here are a few beautiful examples of this trend on this season’s red carpet stars!

The ladies in the image above rock very different versions of the ladylike frock. Jessica Alba goes mod in color-blocked, metallic Thakoon; Miranda Kerr adds some sensuality with low-cut Louis Vuitton; Taylor Swift shines in a high-octane Oscar de la Renta confection. Commonalities of note? A-line, below-the-knee skirts, demure heels, and defined waists.

Another wonderful aspect of the ladylike dress is its versatility. Equally appropriate for a lunch date or cocktails, this dress is a chic way to go from day to night with little to no effort.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual “Power 100: Women in Entertainment” event was full of ladylike dresses, demonstrating that even the most powerful of women can rock a retro-chic look.

Here again we have three unique twists on the ladylike look. Kirsten Dunst rocks a soft Burberry trench dress, for a mysterious take on the classic silhouette; Shailene Woodley shows depth in a multi-textured Prabal Gurung frock; Kate Bosworth opts for structured neutrals, courtesy of Mulberry.

My hope is that this varied and distinct array of Stepford-worthy dresses will convince you that there’s a ladylike look to suit every style, shape, and occasion!

Now, here are some incredible pieces to consider adding to your own wardrobe. Whether you’re looking for an of-the-moment trend piece, or hoping to find a true investment piece, there’s something for you here.
