The Recording Academy has announced that it will award Steve Jobs a posthumous Grammy in the Trustees Award category. The Apple cofounder died in October of pancreatic cancer at 56, and is one of three Trustees Award honorees.
“This year’s honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture,” said Neil Portnow, the president and CEO of The Recording Academy. “It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry.”
Other individuals who will receive 2012 Special Merit Awards include Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Diana Ross, the Allman Brothers Band, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Glen Campbell, Gil Scott-Heron, George Jones and the Memphis Horns. The honorees will be recognized on Feb. 11, 2012 in a special ceremony; the Grammy Awards telecast takes place the following day.
