Regis Philbin may have left “Live! With Regis and Kelly,” but the 80-year-old host recently announced that he’s returning to the small screen with an upcoming talent show concept.
“We’re contemplating a show that is sort of a talent show, but it involves the whole family,” Reeg told Page Six. “A family competition, which is something new in our business. It’s going to be on prime time when it happens.”
Chances are the upcoming venture will be produced by RAF Productions, which Philbin formed with Cort Cassidy, Edward Walson and Barry Glazer. Philbin has also been approached to create a variety show with Michael Manshel, the producer of “Gangland.”
Regis Philbin was also quick to note that his departure from ABC wasn’t a retirement, but an exit for business reasons. “It wasn’t that ABC didn’t try to negotiate with me,” he explained. “As it happens in this business, sometimes you don’t really like the terms so you just walk away with that in mind.”

This morning was Regis Philbin‘s last broadcast of “Live! With Regis and Kelly,” and producers made sure it was an emotional affair.
The show was packed with video montages with stars’ memories of Philbin, a speech from cohost Kelly Ripa, and the presentation of the keys to the city by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. The off-Broadway cast of “Rent” even came on to sing “Seasons of Love,” which really got the waterworks going.
“We’ve had a wonderful show and a great time,” said Philbin to the studio audience at the close of the show. “I’ll always remember spending these mornings with all of you. Thank you very much for these great years together, God bless you all and I hope I see you again real soon. Thanks, everybody.”
A plaque celebrating Regis Philbin’s years on the air will adorn the entrance of the ABC studios in Manhattan, according to People.
In today’s episode of “Live With Regis and Kelly,” Regis Philbin stripped down for guest Snooki. The “Jersey Shore” star came on the show with a bag of goodies and the intent to “Snookerize” the show’s hosts.
Kelly Ripa got away with an animal-print scarf, but Philbin’s gift, a tie, inspired the 80-year-old to take off his shirt, put on the tie and flex like a bodybuilder. Ripa and Snooki egged him on all the while. Should Reeg keep his shirt on from now on, or do you like seeing his spry side? Check out the clip below.
