Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon have been married for over 20 years, and she discussed how they continue to love and inspire each other in the April 2012 issue of Redbook.

“Kevin is seven years older than me, and he’s a lot wiser than me in a lot of ways,” she revealed. “For instance, I can remember struggling in my 30s, work-wise, and he said to me, “We are workhorse actors and we will always be workhorse actors.” It really resonated with me. I thought, ‘Okay, I’m not going to get that mercurial rise. I’m not going to have that thing that’s going to make me the star, but I’m going to work consistently.’ And we both have.”

Sedgwick also said that the secret to keeping her marriage strong is to occasionally take time away from the kids to focus on their connection. “We got help when we needed to be alone. We check in with each other all the time,” she said. “I think that’s ultimately the best for the kids, because they feel safe when they know Mum and Dad are good, enjoying each other’s company and wanting to be alone together. I think that’s important.”
