Kirk Douglas, 95, might have found the key to the fountain of youth: giving to those less fortunate. He and his wife Anne are donating an astonishing $50 million to various charities.
Michael Douglas was presented with the sixth annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara last night. Receiving a kiss from his father along with the award, Douglas junior noted the lack of nepotism inherent in being the sixth recipient.
Michael Douglas’s wife Catherine Zeta-Jones attended to support and celebrate with her husband, Danny DeVito shared anecdotes from his 40-year friendship with the actor/producer, and Annette Bening regaled the attendees with a tribute of their work together on “American President.”
Presented by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (whose next installment runs January 26-February 5, 2012), the award to Michael Douglas was apt for many reasons including the actor’s time spent at the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. Also in attendance at the event were director Ivan Reitman, actress/activist Bo Derek, “Back to the Future’s” Christopher Lloyd and comedian Dennis Miller.
