Did a Jennifer Lopez Rivalry Fuel Britney Spears’ ‘X Factor’ Paycheck Negotiations?

TMZ is reporting that Britney Spears‘ massive $15 million paycheck for “The X Factor” was driven by one unyielding requirement: the pop star’s earnings would have to be more than the figure Jennifer Lopez commanded in her first season of “American Idol.”

Lopez, as you’ll recall, made $12 million in that first season; it’s rumored that her “Idol” earnings are now as high as $20 million. Spears’ bottom line was $13 million for “X Factor,” and she and producers eventually settled on $15 million.

TMZ postulates that Lopez will use earnings as a sticking point in her decision to return to “American Idol,” ideally positioning herself to make more than Spears should she re-sign with the show. Turnabout is fair play, right?

You mirror what the world mirrors to you,” she said. “[Marc] always told me what a beautiful voice I have. He was like, ‘It’s in there; you just gotta let it out. It’s a confidence thing with you.’ Then all of a sudden one day I was like, I’m good at this! Oh, man! People are not giving me jobs because they feel sorry for me! I am an actress. I am a singer. I am a performer. That’s what I do! Once I started giving myself a little credit, the whole world opened up.”

Oxygen Picks Up Jennifer Lopez TV Show About Casper Smart

Jennifer Lopez and Casper SmartCasper Smart will soon have an Oxygen reality show, courtesy of girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. The show won’t catalog much of their romance, according to insiders; instead, it’ll focus on Smart’s choreography work with Lopez’s dancers in preparation for her upcoming world tour.

Smart isn’t shy about how the lifestyle changes he’s had to make since his relationship with Lopez began. “She has great fashion,” he said. “It definitely makes me pull up and I have to go a little bit harder and watch what I wear. I can’t walk around in sweats and just chill-out clothes. I’ve got to look nice.”

What a weekend for the box office. And we don’t mean that in a good way. The WWTW tracker was on the verge of shutting down due to the embarrassment suffered by heavy hitters with underperforming films.

“The Avengers” had no trouble topping the box office for a third straight week with over $56 million (making its total domestic gross around an astounding $450 million); Taylor Kitsch can put down another box office disappointment for this year as his (and Rihanna’s and Brooklyn Decker’s) “Battleship” failed to splash with just $25 million; Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest button-pushing comedy didn’t stick like “Borat” but “The Dictator” came in with an okay $24 million; and the ensemble comedy, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” which includes Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, as well as Elizabeth Banks and Chris Rock only brought in $10.3 million.
