Nicole Richie has just inked a deal to design a limited-edition capsule collection for Macy’s. Is the new partnership due to Mary’s participation on “Fashion Star”?
“Nicole is pretty savvy when it comes to the fashion business and understanding consumers,” said Martine Reardon, the chief marketing officer at Macy’s Inc. “She’s got a very definitive look, very free style and bohemian chic, and our collection will definitely pay homage to her style.”
What will Richie’s line for Macy’s look like? “This collection has a strong mix of masculine and feminine: printed chiffon mixed with faux leathers,” she explained, noting that the line is designed for the “modern woman” who has “many different layers.”

Singer-turned-fashion-designer Jessica Simpson recently opened up about her mentor role on “Fashion Star” and how being pregnant has affected her design process.
Simpson admitted that being around the other designers on “Fashion Star” has renewed her creative spark. “I think just seeing their drive and excitement reignites a fire within me and makes me want to go back to those beginning stages of fresh creativity,” she said. “I definitely was inspired by all of these designers to be even more involved in our collection. And with a lot of them I learned how to fabric shop and I’ve never really done that before.
Simpson also revealed that although she’s toyed with the idea of releasing a signature maternity line, there’s nothing in the pipeline as of now. “The point of launching a maternity line is to do something different,” she explained. “I’m not buying any maternity clothes. I’m wearing clothes in bigger sizes. So, I really want to make a maternity line that’s comfortable, but really stylish for people because I believe we all deserve to feel and look good. It’s a little bit harder because people don’t want to spend a lot of money on maternity clothes because you’re only pregnant for almost 10 months. It’s a harder business, but I feel like it’s something we will do eventually.”
Time to knock down yet another annoying celebrity rumor. It turns out that the much-ballyhooed catfight between Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson on the set of their upcoming reality show, Fashion Star, is bunk. In fact, it’s no catfight but a couple of pussycats who “adore” each other.
Fashion Star is a Project Runway-style competition pitting designers against one another, and “sources” say that Nicole and Jess have been locking horns. Allegedly, Nicole says that Jessica “doesn’t have a high-fashion eye”.
Today, Nicole set the record straight with a statement to People, saying not only is the fight completely fabricated, but the two couldn’t be happier working together. She says:
“I’ll tell you right now that that couldn’t be further from the truth. I actually love and adore Jessica.
“I’ve known her for years, first of all, so I already knew who she was as a person. Who she is is someone who’s very kind, very sweet and extremely smart and a great businesswoman and someone that I really respect … I actually couldn’t love someone or respect someone more.”
So there you have it. Another rumor quashed. Nicole thinks Jessica’s the cream of the crop, and Jess thinks Nicole’s the chicken of the sea.
