With Clint Eastwood directing, and a cast including Judi Dench, Naomi Watts, Dermot Mulroney and Armie Hammer, there are definitely high expectations for “J. Edgar,” which has its world premiere tonight at Grauman’s Chinese Theater as the opening night film of the 2011 AFI Fest presented by Audi)!
Almost a month ago we released sneak peeks of Leonardo DiCaprio in “J. Edgar,” one of the films most certainly being considered as an Oscar contender for the upcoming Awards Season race.
Well, now we know who’ll be among the first to see the film. Today’s announcement by the American Film Institute revealed that the 25th edition of its Los Angeles festival will welcome “J. Edgar” as its opening night film, a world premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater certain to attract director Clint Eastwood, star Leonardo DiCaprio, and more than a handful of the film’s other cast mates (such as Naomi Watts, Dame Judi Dench, Josh Lucas, Dermot Mulroney and Armie Hammer), as well as the film’s writer, Oscar-winner for “Milk,” Dustin Lance Black.

Dermot Mulroney has been part of our film landscape for more than 20 years, with a diverse slate of more than 70 credits that includes the Billy-the-Kid western “Young Guns,” the impactful AIDS drama “Longtime Companion” and the hit rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
Growing up in Alexandria, Virginia, the third of five kids, Mulroney cut his acting chops at Northwestern University, and was recruited in his senior year by a William Morris agent.
