It’s been a tragic year in the entertainment world, and the 2012 Billboard Awards paid tribute to four iconic musicians who passed away this year: Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, Adam Yauch and Robin Gibb.
Billboard Awards cohost Julie Bowen acknowledged Gibb’s passing, which occurred earlier that day, saying, “His voice and music of the Bee Gees will live on forever. Natasha Bedingfield paid homage to Summer by singing “Last Dance,” while Cee Lo Green performed “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)” to honor the Beastie Boys MC.
In what was perhaps the most poignant moment, Bobbi Kristina took the stage after beautiful renditions of “I Will Always Love You” by Jordin Sparks and “The Greatest Love of All” by John Legend to accept the Millennium Award for her late mother. “I really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all,” she said. “Not just from when it was good but when it was bad, too. Thank you for showing that much love, because she deserved it. I’m just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman’s life. There will never be another one, ever.”
