“Supernatural” is returning to the CW this fall for its ninth season, and it’s bringing along a new friend. The series is getting a spin-ff, which will be introduced toward the end of the upcoming season.
Saying the spin-off will be introduced around the 20th episode of season nine, executive producer Jeremy Carver said the episode will “explore the clashing monster and human characters” living in Chicago. “We’ll have main characters who are both human and Monsters,” he added.
EP Robert Singer referred to the spin-off as an ensemble, saying it will involve “families of monsters and families of hunters.”
“Most spin-offs, you spin characters out and create a show about them. Jared and Jensen will be in the spin-off, but it’s an entirely different cast of characters,” Singer said. “And unlike Supernatural – which is a road show — this will take place in one place with a wider cast of characters.”
The network added that fans need not worry — a spin-off is not an indication that “Supernatural” is coming to an end.
