A “Star Wars” spinoff is in the works! The news has been confirmed by Disney CEO, Robert Iger, who says they will be expanding the movie franchise with several movies based on secondary characters.
“We are working on a few stand-alone films, derived from great ‘Star Wars’ characters that are not part of the over all stage,” Iger said.
The new films are being worked on by Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote “Jedi” and “The Empire Strikes Back,” and Simon Kinberg, who has worked on films like “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and “X-Men: First Class.” The pair will be consulting with J.J. Abrams, who recently confirmed he will be directing “Star Wars: Episode VII.”
“The implications for ‘Star Wars’ fans will be great,” Iger said. ”We have these great opportunities because there are these good ideas out there and good creators interested in fleshing out these ideas, and we’re going for it.”
