A musical version of “Sleepless in Seattle” will be hitting the stage this spring. The musical is set to premiere on May 24 at the Pasadena Playhouse. The play is based on the 1993 hit romantic movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan about a young boy who wants to find a new partner for his recently windowed father. He calls in to a radio talk show and gets the attention of a woman living on the other side of the country.
Sheldon Epps, the artistic director at Pasadena Playhouse, has taken over directing duties from Lonny Price, who dropped out of the project citing “creative differences” and other commitments.
“Sometimes it seems that life in the theatre is all about change,” Epps said in a statement. “I am pleased that a recent change in my own schedule allows me to take on the joy and excitement of directing this musical.”
The “Sleepless in Seattle” musical will run from May 24 to June 23 at the Pasadena Playhouse in California. The show has already set its sights on a move to Broadway or London’s theatre scene.
