Entertainment Weekly is exclusively reporting that the eighth season of “Weeds,” which premieres on Showtime July 1, will be its last.
Since it initially premiered in 2005, “Weeds” has garnered critical praise for Showtime and a cult following of viewers who have seen the characters go from the California suburbs to the druglords of Mexico to the confines of prison. Each season, the storyline has reincarnated itself, sometimes for the better and sometimes not so much. One thing that can’t be denied, though, is that creator Jenji Kohan has never been afraid to take chances with the characters, making them at times unlikable yet very real.
The lead role of Nancy Botwin has garnered star Mary-Louise Parker a Golden Globe win, several Emmy nominations and a People’s Choice nod. There’s no doubt one of television’s most controversial and debated characters will be missed.
Tune in to Showtime July 1 at 10 p.m. to find out how the Botwin family will embark on their final journey.
