Do you think George Clooney should run for president of the United States? His father thinks so. Nick Clooney, a former politician himself, said as much during a radio interview on “The John Murray Show” for RTE Radio One in Ireland.
Before you start envisioning President Clooney, know that the “Ides of March” actor hasn’t always been keen to go into politics. “I don’t know whether [George] will even run for president,” admitted Nick Clooney. “I know he closely followed my race for the U.S. House of Representatives in Kentucky, but he didn’t like what he saw. He understands compromise, but I don’t think he’s comfortable with the level of compromise involved in politics. My guess is he will not run for elective office, although I do hope I’m wrong, as I think he would make a great public servant.”
George Clooney is far more direct about his unwillingness to enter the political arena. “I’ve always been cynical about politics,” he told USA Today in October. “I still believe in candidates, in people. But having seen what my father went through, running for Congress, the process is soul-stealing. I got a real lesson from that.”
Do you think George Clooney should become a politician, or is he better off playing one in Hollywood films?
