“Traumatized critics exhale: I’m unable to do the Oscars again,” MacFarlane wrote. “Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep.”
MacFarlane’s last Oscars hosting gig left a lot of critics displeased. However, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron defended his performance.
“However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business,” MacFarlane added.
As hosts of years past (ahem, James Franco and Anne Hathaway) know, hosting the Oscars is no easy paycheck. It requires a person to be charming and funny, without being too offensive and still respecting the awards being handed out. MacFarlane jokingly gave his own recommendation for next year’s host.
“My suggestion for host is Joaquin Pheonix,” he said.
