“Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” is getting a sequel. According the Deadline, the studios who backed the film (Paramount, MGM and MTV) didn’t want to give their go-ahead on a second flick until the movie reached a specific goal at the box office.
However, as of yesterday, “Hansel and Gretel” has made $200 million in the global box office. It didn’t do so well domestically, only raking in $54 million, which was a disappointment since Paramount says the film had a budget of $50 million.
“Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton and is based on a fairytale about a brother and sister duo who fall pretty to an evil witch in a forest. In this modern-day revival, Hansel and Gretel are hunters who travel the world hunting and killing witches. In their travels, the siblings come across a new kind of evil that might have some information about their past.
