Santa Barbara Film Festival to Open with Jason Bateman’s ‘Disconnect’

The Jason Bateman drama “Disconnect” has been chosen to open the 28th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which kicks off Jan. 24 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.

“Disconnect” focuses on a group of friends who are obsessed with all things technical, while searching for human connections. The film also stars Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Paula Patton and Hope Davis.

The festival is also set to honor Leonardo DiCaprio with the American Riviera Award in a ceremony to take place on Feb. 1.

Roger Durling, Executive Director of the festival, made a statement about the DiCaprio honor, saying, “We are thrilled to be honoring Leonardo DiCaprio with the American Riviera Award, in a year where he has shown us another layer of his immeasurable talent. His performance in “Django Unchained” reaffirms that he is the most relevant actor of this generation.”

“Disconnect” opens in theaters nationwide April 19.
