The big winners at last night’s SAG Awards were “The Help,” “The Artist,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Modern Family” and the guild itself, affirming that both of the largest acting unions, SAG and AFTRA, had cleared the path for a merger to an organization that would work for all actors.
While many, including us, were hoping that the SAG Awards, voted on by the acting guild, the largest group of voters of the Academy, would give some clearer indication of whether Meryl Streep or Michelle Williams would take home the Best Actress Oscar next month, the win by Viola Davis in that category means the statuette is certainly still up for grabs.
Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”) remained in front of a pack that includes Clooney and Pitt, while Octavia Spencer (“The Help”) and Christopher Plummer (“Beginners”) continue their stronghold on the supporting actor categories.
