Russell Crowe has just signed on to play Dracula in the upcoming Warner Bros. film “Harker.” Eli Roth is rumored to direct the project, which focuses on Scotland Yard detective Jonathan Harker as he tracks Dracula.
Deadline reports that Harker is being set up as a franchise character, although Crowe’s Dracula will only appear in the first film.
Although Warner Bros. has had the rights to “Harker” since February 2011, the studio has just now fast-tracked it and turned to Roth to direct it. Filming should start in 2013 if everything goes to plan. Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy are the script’s writers, while Appian Way, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are the flick’s producers.
