Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson & The Rest of ‘The Avengers’ Dominate Celeb.com’s WHO WON THE WEEK

After years of speculation on whether an “Avengers” movie were possible, Marvel not only pulled off the unthinkable – attaching the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L. Jackson to play their respective superhero roles in one movie – but, thanks to its titans has brought Disney (who releases Marvel’s films) back from the grave after its colossal loss on Taylor Kitsch’s sci-fi bust “John Carter.”

With “The Avengers”’ domestic box office total reaching an all-time opening record of $200 million for the weekend (shattering former record holder “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ with $169 million), the summer movie season has kicked off with a Hulk-like SMASH!!!

As no other competition is in site, “The Avengers” is obviously WWTW’s big winner. So here’s highlights at how some of the cast spent their week:

Robert Downey Jr.
It turns out Iron Man has a soft side. While promoting the film this week Downey Jr. took some time to show off pics of his new baby, Exton (is it just us, or does that sound like a cool name for a superhero?)

Scarlett Johansson
Playing the deadly assassin Black Widow in tight spandex wasn’t the only challenge for Johansson. As we learned this week she had only 48 hours with a dialect coach to get a grasp of some Russian she had to speak in the movie.

She also had a little fun on “Jimmy Kimmel,” making his dreams come true by being his fake prom date in this funny bit. ScarJo also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Just add one more highlight to this starlet who isn’t even 30 yet.

Chris Evans / Chris Hemsworth
Though they aren’t buddy-buddy in the film, off screen the two Chris’s have found a bond as they teamed up to promote the film. Over at MTV.com they talked a bit about their strict training regimen to play Captain America and Thor. They also stopped over to chat up the ladies on “The View” to not only talk about sequels for their own superhero franchises but an “Avengers” sequel.

Samuel L. Jackson
After beginning the week with a cover story in The New York Times Magazine, Jackson got all Nick Fury on the Times’ chief movie critic A.O. Scott. After reading Scott’s review of “The Avengers,” Samuel L. tweeted “#Avengers fans,NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let’s help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!”

This launched a week-long barrage of responses on all social media forms over the actor’s tweet. EW.com recapped the twitter war; Vanity Fair.com also dived in.

We have a feeling both Jackson and Scott aren’t losing much sleep over this… As they say, Avenge is Sweet.
