Robert Downey Jr., the glowing heart and soul of the “Iron Man” movies, has proven less ironclad than his alter ego, hurting his ankle on the set of the third installment. The 47-year-old star sustained the injury while performing a stunt while filming in Wilmington, N.C. The shoot will be delayed while he recuperates. No other details were released.
The first two movies in the “Iron Man” series were directed by Jon Favreau and grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide. “Iron Man 3,” directed by Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”), is still expected to be released on May 2, 2013.
Meanwhile, a release date has been set for the sequel to this summer’s blockbuster “The Avengers,” in which Downey Jr. also starred as Iron Man: May 1, 2015.
Get well soon, RDJ!
