LAPD officer Sally Madera revealed that police found Young’s body on Monday morning at his home in North Hollywood after he didn’t show up to work at TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles.” The LA Fire Department was then called to pronounce him dead at the scene. His cause of death is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Young played Detective Barry Frost on the TNT crime drama. He starred alongside Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. However, he is perhaps best known for the show that first garnered him Hollywood attention — Disney Channel’s “Famous Jett Jackson.” The show featured Young in the starring role and aired for three seasons. In the show, he played a small-town teenager who was also a Hollywood celebrity himself, as the star of fictional television show Silverstone.”
Production on “Rizzoli & Isles” was shut down after the cast and crew got word of Young’s death. There is no word yet on when production will resume, but the show was just renewed last week for a fifth season, which would have included Young as a series regular.
“Everyone at ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man,” TNT, Warner Bros. and “Rizzoli & Isles” showrunner Janet Tamaro said in a joint statement. “He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
