R.I.P. John Hughes

the-breakfast-clubSo this is what it feels like to be old. It’s not realizing that you could logically be the parent of Miley Cyrus. It’s watching all of your childhood icons die off, one by one. Oh, and then there’s that part about going to Forever 21 and seeing every bad idea from 1988 selling for $19.99. But this is worse. Legendary director John Hughes died today at the age of 59.

Really sad news. This has been a bad summer for 80s icons.

I mourn his passing. He had so much more to contribute. Godspeed, Mr. Hughes.

I’m not too sure he really had all that much more to contribute. Have you seen any of his recent output? Drillbit Taylor? Beethoven’s 3rd, 4th, and 5th? Maid in Manhattan? Home Alone 4? When Drillbit Taylor is the best work you’ve done in 15 years your career is pretty much done.
