Photo Gallery: Emile Hirsch Steps Out in Venice

If you’ve been wondering where your “Into the Wild” star has been lately, fear no more. Though he’s been on the down low since “Milk’s” release in 2008, director William Friedkin’s “Killer Joe” showed at the Venice Film Festival and screens at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.

“Killer Joe” sees Hirsch star opposite Matthew McConaughey, Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple. In the film (based on a play by Tracy Letts) Hirsch’s character puts a hit out on his evil mother in order to collect the insurance.

Hirsch has also recently completed “The Darkest Hour,” an alien invasion movie with Olivia Thirlby (“Juno”) and Max Minghella, “The Motel Life” with Dakota Fanning and Stephen Dorff (due out in 2012) and has been filming “The Savages” for director Oliver Stone (and co-starring Blake Lively, John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Salma Hayek).
