Philip Seymour Hoffman Leads Big Names at Tony Award Nominations

Philip Seymour Hoffman leads a group of Oscar-nominated heavyweights in the nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role at Broadway’s Tony Awards.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Oscar-winner for his turn in “Capote,” stars in Broadway’s revival of “Death of a Salesman.” His fellow nominees include “Frost/Nixon” star Frank Langella (for “Man and Boy”), TV giant John Lithgow (for “The Columnist”) and the inimitable golden-voiced James Earl Jones (Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man”).

Announced this morning, the Best Actress category features “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon (for “Wit”) and Stockard Channing (“Other Desert Cities”). David Alan Grier receives a nomination for Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and “The Amazing Spider-Man’s” own webbed-one, Andrew Garfield, received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his work alongside Seymour Hoffman in “Death of a Salesman” also.
