The two bring a diverse yet complementary list of credits: Zimmer’s film scores include “Inception,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, “The Lion King,” “Gladiator” and “Sherlock Holmes,” while Williams wrote the “Despicable Me” score and has three Grammy Awards under his belt as a producer and artist.
Don Mischer and Brian Grazer, the producers for the 2012 Academy Awards, hope that the awards show’s music will blend Williams’ hip-hop, R&B and pop background with Zimmer’s classical background. “Hans is one of the most accomplished and creative film composers of our time and Pharrell is a phenomenal songwriter with an amazing list of credits,” the duo said in a statement. Grazer and Mischer added that the collaboration will “take the audience on a musical journey.”
