After finding herself the target of media scrutiny, Paula Deen has taken control of her health following a difficult diabetes diagnosis three years ago. The newly svelte superstar chef has lost an incredible 30 pounds. It wasn’t easy, though, under the veil of intense criticism that was thrown her way.
“I was surprised by the depth of hate,” she said. “This is not something I chose. I had been given lemons and I had to try to make lemonade — without sugar!”
Paula seems to be swimming in lemonade now. On this week’s cover of People magazine, the woman known for her no-holds-barred Southern cooking might now be known for her sugar-barred, healthy Southern cooking. If any chef is going to leave taste at the forefront of the dish, it’s Paula.
