For decades, rumors have swirled about the world’s most successful foursome. Did Yoko Ono squelch the beloved Beatles when she fell in love with John Lennon? Well, according to Paul McCartney, she’s off the hook.
McCartney explains, “She certainly didn’t break the group up, the group was breaking up. I don’t think you can blame her for anything.”
He continued, “When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her avant-garde side, her view of things, so she showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him. So it was time for John to leave, he was definitely going to leave.”
Perhaps the most touching and poignant part of the details McCartney shared about Lennon, are on the artistic musical endeavors the late Lennon explored after he left The Beatles. “I don’t think he would have done ‘Imagine’ without Yoko.”
The Beatles are poised to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.
