She’s the queen of the media and now she could be the queen of the organic grocery store aisle. Oprah Winfrey has filed trademarks and patents under the name “Oprah’s Organics.”
The talk show legend could be following in the footsteps of the legendary Paul Newman, whose line of organic foods, Newman’s Own, has raised millions of dollars for charity. No word yet if Winfrey’s products would contribute to charity like Newman’s, but knowing how charitable the talk show icon is, it wouldn’t be surprising.
At the end of October, Winfrey filed five trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office under the name “Oprah’s Organics.” The products named in the filing include salad dressings, sauces, soups, dips, frozen vegetables and beverages. In addition to food products, there was also a line of bath and body products featuring soap, bubble bath, moisturizer, lip balm, hand cream, hair products and other personal-care items.
Oprah’s spokesperson addressed the reports by saying, “The trademarks were filed for Oprah’s farm on Maui to enable the farm to grow and distribute produce on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.”
What do you think about a line of organics from Oprah? Would you be in line to purchase them?
