“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” is impressing before it even hits the airwaves. The show, which will premiere this fall, has already received more episodes.
The show was originally given 13 episodes by ABC as a limited series, but it seems the show’s first season is not going to be so limited anymore. According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC will be adding to those 13 episodes, but the final number will not be a full season of 22 either.
Creators of “Wonderland,” Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have a different vision for the show, wanting to have a breakdown of the story from start to finish, without any filler, before the first episode premieres. Therefore, the writers have already figured out how many hours they need to tell their story, and ABC seems to be obliging to their requests.
“We really want to tell the story without having to worry about how to stretch it for five years,” Kitsis said. “The upfront order will be it for the season.”
“This is not meant to be a 22-episode season,” Horowitz added. “Whatever it ends up being, we’ll have told a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end.”
“If the audience responds and people love these characters, the plan would be to bring it back next year and tell a whole new story,” Horowitz said.
