Move over, “American Idol,” “The X Factor,” “The Voice” and “Duets,” there’s another singing competition in the ever-growing genre: “The Winner Is.” The NBC show will put contestants of all ages in head-to-head battles for a cash prize of $1 million.
“The Winner Is” adds an extra element: a prize to walk away. Starpulse reports that contestants can negotiate deals with their adversaries before hearing the judge’s critique, adding, “Singers can choose to leave the competition in exchange for a predetermined cash prize or continue on in the game.”
That dangling carrot, so to speak, even continues to the finale, where two finalists can opt to either walk away with a $100,000 prize or risk it and let their fate (and the recipient of the $1 million prize) be determined by viewer votes and judges’ critiques.
Do you think “The Winner Is” has what it takes to make a dent in TV ratings?
