Morrissey‘s upcoming concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will be the very first time in history that an artist performs a vegetarian concert. That means all vendors in the venue or around the venue will only be allowed to sell products that are completely meat-free.
“I don’t look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals,” Morrissey, who is a vegetarian himself, said in a statement.
After some convincing from the singer, the Staples Center agreed to shut down their McDonald’s restaurants for the night — a gesture they previously denied to Paul McCartney. In addition to going vegetarian, the Staples Center and Goldenvoice concert promoters will be donating a portion of the night’s ticket sale profits to PETA.
Morrissey will return to the stage this week after postponing his North American Tour due to a hospitalization in January. His vegetarian concert will take place at the Staples Center on March 1.
