Molly Ringwald, famous for starring in ’80′s classics like “Pretty in Pink” and “16 Candles,” covered the theme song from one of her most famous roles, “The Breakfast Club.” The song, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds, is one that many associate with the film.
Ringwald recently released her own jazz album, titled “Except Sometimes,” and put her own unique twist on the song.
“When I recorded the album… it was really soon after [filmmaker] John Hughes passed away,” Ringwald told Vulture. “And he was in my mind a lot. And, I don’t know, I felt like I wanted to sing a tribute to him. And also, I wanted to incorporate who I was into who I am.”
The jazz cover is certainly missing the upbeat melody that made the original song so catchy, but Ringwald’s slowed-down version is a little sexier and makes for a nice little tribute to her time as an ’80s movie superstar.
