Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan tied the knot to Clay Pell, a White House National Security employee. The couple wed on Saturday, January 19 in Providence, Rhode Island with Kwan in a Vera Wang gown.
“I wore so many skating dresses designed by her, whole skating shows and everything. I have a long relationship with her,” Kwan said, explaining why she chose a Vera Wang dress, which was a ivory mermaid-style gown made of silk organza with lace detailing.
Wang designed the dress specifically for the occasion, making sure to keep Kwan and Pell’s relationship in mind.
“She is marrying someone whose family has a political history, and Michelle is living and working in Washington D.C.,” Wang explained. “[The dress] had to have a certain dignity and a certain classicism, and I think it was a lot about a new way of looking at tradition.”
Guests of the wedding included other former Olympic skaters — Dorothy Hamill, Dick Button and Brian Boitano.
Congrats to the happy couple!
